The deceased have been identified as Khago Jhodia, Abhi Jhodia and Bana Jhodia. Khago died on Thursday, Abhi on Friday and Bana the day after. The villagers claimed the victims complained of symptoms like fever, vomiting, and diarrhoea. They died before they could be shifted to the hospital. “We suspect it to be a case of food poisoning as the deceased and affected villagers had attended a local feast recently. Rectal swabs of the affected persons have been collected and sent for tests to ascertain the cause of the disease,” said Lal Mohan Routray, chief district medical and public health officer, Rayagada.
